Yorisan is enrolled to SMU in 2014 studying under the Bachelor of Business Management program. He has been an active member in SMUKI since 2014.

Experience in university live

Yori is a member in Rotaract since his freshie year. He participated in GAYA2015: Malabero as a member of the sponsorship and properties department. Furthermore, he is the producer of coming GAYA2016.

Hi Yori, congratulations in your recent appointment as GAYA Producer 2016. Can we know if there are any other achievement or special talents that you have and we don’t know?

"Thanks!! Haha, no achievements that I can think of…and not really a special talent but I love art and music, and I can draw and play piano a little."

So can we know what are the motivation and drive behind your joining GAYA as producer?

"My undertaking of the Producer role is my first big step out of my comfort zone, I’m doing this because I decided that this second year of mine will be a YOLO year - where I will challenge myself with many things I never imagined I’d do. But well, now that I got the role, I’ll try my best to meet and surpass expectations."

Have you had any plans for GAYA 2016 since it will be the 10th anniversary of GAYA? Can you already foresee some difficulties or struggles?

"Yep, 10th anniversary means that GAYA16 has got to be even better than its already amazing predecessor. As for special plans, by the end of GAYA 2016, I want this year’s Production team to have memories and sentiments towards GAYA equal to that of the Performance team, and yes, I can foresee that this will be a challenge. But it’s what I’ve decided on, so gogogo."

So.. what do you hope to achieve at the end of GAYA 2016?

"For myself, the life-changing skills, habits and experience to be gained from this epic journey. For the Production team and all other participants of GAYA, as well as its audience, an unforgettable experience that will leave them yearning for more (gagal move on), like me. And “more” = GAYA17. [English: gagal move on = fail to move on]"

Are you a person who is more CCA oriented or academic oriented? To what extent do you think you can sacrifice your studies?

"Taking ‘oriented’ to mean ‘interested in’, I am definitely more CCA oriented. It’s very hard for me to get myself interested/motivated for academics. I do my job as a student, but nowhere near as enthusiastically as my job as a club member.

As for the second question, I’ve decided (and proven first-hand) that my studies and GAYA will always be 2 separate matters. Being more/less active in one will not affect the other. It’s a matter of self-discipline. I will perform to my best ability in both, as I always have."

What kind of leader do you deem yourself as? You can describe your own leadership style and expectation hehe

"My leadership style is very chill, as opposed to the more popular explosive-enthusiastic leadership style seen in many. As for expectations, I find it very important to lay down what I expect from each member of my team as clearly as possible before starting work. Of course, these expectations will be established through discussion and mutual consent. That will help in giving each member a clear idea of what their role is, and help us pinpoint the problem when something goes wrong."

For example, when you are faced with difficulties such as people not cooperating and giving you troubles and not keeping to deadlines, how will you manage this issue?

"I am a strong advocate of the view that ‘prevention is better than cure’ and if people don’t cooperate, the first person I blame is myself for not having prevented that. How I manage the issue will be to quickly urge the person to get to work. I think conveying the message early is more important than conveying it strongly. If they clearly have no intention to cooperate then I’ll meet them in person for a more serious conversation. However, I have strong faith that an adverse situation that major will not arise."

Is there someone that you look up to in SMU? Mind telling us who? Haha if you don’t want to reveal, you can just describe why do you admire that person so much.

"Oh there are so many people I look up to in SMU, and most of them are from GAYA…in fact, there are people I really admire who are from GAYA but not SMU. One person I really really admire has an undying spirit in the worst of adversities, and in those situations, can almost completely restrain emotions and remain patient. This person is also willing to sacrifice personal things for GAYA that others would never imagine doing, and keeps it secret…I really respect that. It’s not easy, but I want to be like that too.

No, I don’t mind telling who. But guessing is more fun isn’t it? "

Do you have any ambition in the future? If yes, do you already have plans to chase after your dreams?

"Yes. Big ambitions. Stretch out your arms. It’s that big. And yes, I’m already starting to chase after my dreams. I’m one step closer with what I’ve learned from GAYA15…and I’ll be several steps closer after GAYA16. ^^"
