GELAR BUDAYA

Gelar Budaya (GAYA) is one of the largest arts and cultural productions in Singapore Management University (SMU) produced by SMU Komunitas Indonesia (SMUKI)- the Indonesian Student Community in SMU. The event was pioneered by a group of Indonesian students with the common goal of showcasing Indonesian culture to the Singaporean community.

Established in 2008, GAYA was primarily inspired by traditional folk stories and Indonesian cultures. However, while still rooted to Indonesian culture, GAYA has matured itself into a more vibrant and dynamic production that will charm and thrill audiences with dances and musical elements from a variety of genres. Thus, expect modern contemporary dances mixed with enchanting traditional Indonesian dances and melodies. Such collaboration between modern, contemporary arts and traditional arts is distinct to GAYA.

For years, GAYA has been a platform for diverse individuals, sharing a common love of Indonesian culture, to discover and express their abilities in the production as well as making unbreakable bonds. Its phenomenon humbly reflects the many individuals working hand in hand in realizing the production. GAYA has progressively evolved from quality to recognition over the years, garnering continued support and high praises from contributors and audience.

The huge success of GAYA 2014 has prompted challengers to step-up the show for the next GAYA. Tremendously motivated by the essence of GAYA which is to produce a highly creative and Indonesian show, the next-to-be producers and directors must go through tough ordeal before being positioned as Producer and Director.
