TimeBond'14

After the first two weeks of school, SMUKI has organized a two-day-one-night camp to welcome Indonesian freshmen in Singapore Management University (SMU). The camp named TimeBond, SMUKI Freshmen Orientation Camp, is aimed to help the freshies to bond with other Indonesians as well as to help them being better integrated in SMU.

At a fresh morning on 23rd August 2014, all the freshmen came to school with each being assigned to 4 different groups. Since the theme of TimeBond was water Pokemon, the four groups were named Krabby, Lotad, Psyduck and Squirtle. Each group had a pair of facilitator and the facilitators assisted the freshies throughout the camp. At around half past nine, everyone had come and gathered, chit-chatting happily among one another. The beginning of the camp was started with a brief speech by Exco 10th President, Ms. Gabriella Ong and afterwards, Mario Samanta and Magdalena Sun, our welfare directors, explained shortly about the schedule of the camp and injected enthusiasm to all TimeBond participants.

To get the participants be more familiarized with all the others, they all must play ice breaking games. They shouted, cheered, posed at the same time laughed when some of their friends did forfeit. Slowly but sure, everyone's mood was lifted and they were getting enthusiastic for more games to come.

When the ice-breaking games ended, it was already nearing lunch hour; therefore, all four groups were given approximately a two-hour break. After coming back, it was the time for all the freshmen as pokemon trainers to start their journey in hunting badges to become pokemon masters. Game masters as gym leaders had awaited them in each station to test their teamwork and team-building skills. In total, there were 7 stations to complete. The team with the most badges collected would win the match .

It was a source of delight to see the freshies' beaming faces, their boisterous laughter, their silly jokes: a sign that they truly enjoyed the day games. Even though the games were challenges for each team, the important thing is that everyone was having fun playing the games.

Apart from day games, there were night games which were designated to introduce the arts and culture of Indonesia. Uniquely, we packed Indonesia's arts and culture into stem-winding games so that the freshies would not only get to know the arts and culture but also to feel rejoiced in playing them. The games were considered as Mini Gaya Games consisting of singing contest, acting game, and Saman dance. Saman Dance is a one of the most popular dances in Indonesia, also known as the dance of a thousand hands. Having completed the games, the groups were dismissed for the night to have a bonding session within their group.

The next day, the freshmen were to have sports match to fight for group's champion. It was an intense match with all the four teams striving to become the winner. After playing sports and having lunch, all four groups were performing for mini-acting shows which themes were assigned to each group during TimeBond. Seeing the creativity of each freshmen had added a different touch of color to TimeBond. It was indeed a refreshing feeling and hillarious to watch the freshmen's translating the theme to a creative act. After all groups had performed, the judge discussed and announced the winner of TimBond based on their accumulated games score and performance score.

Based on the overall result, the winner of TimeBond'14 is ...............Psyduck! Congratulations to Psyduck team and thank you to all the freshmen who have joined TimeBond. Hope you all have the best fun during the camp! See you again for the next TimeBond!

To relish the sweet time and memories during TimeBond, we have specially created a short video for you. Enjoy!
